Lithuania’s long-time friend, Senator Fischer receives Lithuanian State Award
Lithuania’s long-time friend and supporter, Senator Pavel Fischer was decorated with the Lithuanian State Award at the Lithuanian Embassy last night.
Fischer, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Chairman of the Czech Senate, received the Officer’s Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania”. President Gitanas Nausėda issued a corresponding decree in July this year.
Senator Fischer was awarded for his active role in strengthening Czech-Lithuanian bilateral relations and promoting democratic values.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Laimonas Talat-Kelpša underlined the far-reaching character of Senator Fischer’s activities, which cover politics, diplomacy, and democratic activism. In the past, Fischer also ran twice in the Czech presidential election and came third and fourth, respectively.
In particular, the Ambassador singled out Fischer’s unrelenting support to Democratic Belarus and Ukraine and his strong and vocal support to Lithuania, who had faced Lukashenka’s hybrid attack and China’s coercive economic pressure.
“Sometimes we received the Senator’s support without asking for it. It is a great honour and privilege to have such a friend”, said the Ambassador.
For his part, Senator Fischer stressed the organic nature of his warm and friendly attachment to Lithuania. “At all levels, Lithuania bravely fights for the principles that are important to all people who value freedom and democracy”, he said, thanking for the high recognition of his work.
More than a hundred guests attended the gala event at the Lithuanian Embassy, including members of the diplomatic corps, the Czech Senate and House of Representatives, prominent cultural figures, media representatives, and members of the Czech Lithuanian community.
